Our first trip away was during the summer Bank Holiday. We took off to Dublin – the home of Guinness.
Dublin was a very small and friendly city. I took my All Black tops and they certainly aroused a lot of tounge and cheek from the locals (this was before we got knocked out of the RWC).
We didn’t get off to a great start with our flight being delayed by four hours. Eventually we arrived in the city centre at about midnight. After checking in, we headed off for some food which consisted of Burger King (the only thing open in Central Dublin at 12.30 am!).
The next day we did some touring on the bus, had a look at the the city and then went out for a good old Irish pub meal.
Sunday was the big day for us – in the morning we took a bus to Malahide Castle which is a heritage site about an hour out of Dublin. It was an interesting to see the Irish coastline on the way, and to go inside a real castle.
That afternoon we took a tour of the Guinness factory. It was interesting to see the manufacturing process, and the complimentary pint of Guinness was probably the smoothest beverage I have ever tasted!
