Stonehenge and Bath

We hired a car and decided to do some driving around the UK one weekend in October.

After driving around in circles for about two hours on the Friday night, Saturday we set out for a day trip to Stonehenge and Bath.

We shared the driving between Christian and myself. It was great to get out of London, and not on a train either!

The drive to Stonehenge was relatively straight forward and we got there by about lunch time. After a quick bite to eat we had a walk around Stonehenge. It was a really murky and misty day so it looked really surreal to stand in front of these giant megaliths, with the countryside disappearing into the mist behind. It’s a pity you can’t catch this on a digital camera.

After the hour or so it took to circumnavigate Stonehenge we jumped back on the road and took a few M and A something-or-rather highways, and we arrived in the town (city?) of Bath.

It is a beautiful and grand town, and of course it’s highlight is visiting the Roman Baths, which are supplied by the UK’s only hot water spring.

There was a tap there that allowed you to sample some of the ‘Bath water’. I think I was the only one game enough to do it – it tasted quite sulphuric and volcanic.

The following day we went south to Brighton. Unfortunately it was a cold, wet and windy day, so we didn’t get a chance to appreciate it in it’s glory. The Pier was quite funny, and again it was a very quaint town. Definitely worth another trip in the summer.
